Dr. Birte Lorenzen has been admitted to the bar since 2002 and has worked in IP law at various renowned Hamburg law firms since 2004, becoming a partner in 2015. Previously, she worked in strategic management consulting at McKinsey & Company, Inc.
Birte provides strategic and legal advice to companies in their day-to-day business and in transactions when dealing with innovations and digitalization. In addition to data law, her areas of expertise include industrial property rights, trademark law, plant variety protection, competition law, and trade secret protection. Birte helps companies adapt their business models in these areas, advises them on clearance issues, drafts contracts, and manages extensive IP legal portfolios for her clients. She also enforces these rights both in and out of court and defends companies against attacks by third parties.
Birte studied law and political science at Philipps University Marburg, Hastings College of the Law at the University of San Francisco, and the University of Hamburg. In 2002, she received her doctorate from the University of Hamburg for her dissertation on design protection. While working on her doctorate, she was a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg from 1997 to 2000. She has regularly been listed by Handelsblatt/Best Lawyers in the ranking “Germany’s Best Lawyers” – since 2014 in the IP category and, since 2024 additionally in advertising, media, and copyright law.
